Write an E-Book Together
A couple of months before Christmas, I decided to write an e-book that I could give as a Christmas gift to all of my readers. But instead of writing it myself, I decided to invite my clients to contribute to it.
Here’s an extract of the message I sent them:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I’ve got a product idea that won’t take much effort, won’t cost you a cent, and will give you great leverage.
In brief, we each write a one-page article, I’ll compile them into an e-book, and we all get a great Christmas gift to share with our databases.
Interested? Keep reading. If not, you can just delete this now
OK, here’s the idea … I’m going to put together an e-book titled “Expect More From 2007″. It will have contributions from a number of experts (including YOU!). Each contributor will write a one-page article with tips for readers to get more from 2007.
I’ll put the e-book together by the end of November, and send you a copy to freely distribute to anybody you like. It will be an excellent gift for clients, prospects, your newsletter list, whatever. Heck, I guess you could even sell it if you like.
Contributions will appear in the order I receive them. So get in early if you’d like to be near the front.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The results exceeded my expectations!
The very first day, six people wrote back with articles. Within a couple of weeks, I had 30 contributions. And by the end of the four-week deadline I set, 57 people had sent through an article.
The final e-book (which you can download at the end of this newsletter) contains 58 of the best ideas, strategies, thoughts and guidelines for making 2007 your best year ever. If you implement even one-tenth of these ideas, you’ll have a GREAT year!
I’m so pleased I decided to make this a joint effort, and even more pleased that so many people jumped at the chance to take part.
Look at the benefits …
Just consider the benefits for everybody who takes part:
* Everybody contributes just one page, but gets a full e-book in return.
* They have a low-cost, high-value gift for their database.
* They get their own product to use in any other way they choose.
* They get their name in front of 57 other high-value databases.
* Their readers hear from a variety of experts, not just themselves.
Can you do something similar with your own client base? All it takes is a simple e-mail message to get started …
By the way, you can get my “Expect More From 2007″ e-book here:

The Role of the Book Publisher
A book publisher is a group or person who is responsible for bringing the book to the public for reading purposes. The book publisher is involved in the major steps of developing, marketing, producing, printing, and distributing the book. The book publisher negotiates with authors over intellectual property rights, rights to distribute, and rights to change the book. The publisher also offers the author a bonus, royalties, or a percentage of sales. See self-publishing-steps.com for the steps required to publish a book yourself.
Book publishers must go through an initial process of negotiation with the author. Intellectual rights must be negotiated. The intellectual rights laws for every country is different, so the author must demonstrate which countries he/she would like to market the book in, and what his/her desires are for the rights of the book in each country. If there is a digital printing of the book, the author would also discuss which rights would be allowed with the internet. There have been many issues of download copyright protected material from the internet, however this is a complicated issue, as many countries have not yet passed laws against this act, or do not enforce already present legislation on downloading copyrighted material from the internet.
The book publisher also deals with the editorial phase of book creation. This phase involves utilizing a large staff of editors, artists, copyeditors, writers, and other members to change and alter the book to the chief executive editor’s preferences, as well as the author’s preferences. The amount of editing that takes place, as well as the different levels of editing depends on how large the book publisher is. Larger publishers may go through several rounds of editing before the book is finally released, and there is more of a lengthy process involved. The more clout that an author has, the less that the editor can alter the book.
Finally, the book publisher will produce and distribute the book. The production process is the process of physically creating the book. This process may be accomplished using onsite facilities, or the publisher may go to a third party production company to fulfill this need. The book is then wrapped and shipped to a variety of bookstores where it is displayed to the public. The publisher usually has negotiated some kind of deal with the bookstore to get their books displayed.

“5 Tips for a Successful Book Launch”
Have you written a book? Is this book part of your Internet business? Are you going to sell this book online through retailers such as Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com? If so then one of your main goals is to have a successful book launch. A successful book launch is one that promotes your book well before and during publication thus garnering amazing sales.
Many top Internet gurus have sold books through these outlets. They have sold books based on their seminars, workshops, and business tactics. These books are highly valuable, but only if everybody knows about them. If your book shows up on Amazon and Barnes & Noble with little fanfare then you will experience low sales which can be devastating to your bottom line.
The basics of promoting your book include letting people know the title, cost, and publication date. How do you promote these details in the most effective manner to massive audiences that will want to buy your book? Read on to find little known tips from top Internet gurus who have traveled this path before you.
Book Launch Tip #1: Focus on Amazon.com first. It is more difficult to drive traffic to Amazon.com so you want to conquer that task in the beginning. Then focus on sending traffic to Barnes & Noble.com. Plus, achieving an Amazon.com bestseller designation is worth its weight in gold.
Book Launch Tip #2: A great way to drive traffic to either Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.com is to have an opt-in page on your website. Once people subscribe to your list automatically send them to your Amazon.com (or Barnes & Noble.com) landing page where they can buy the book.
Book Launch Tip #3: Verify that your book information appears correctly on Amazon. Make sure that the title, author, price, etc. are correct before people are sent to your page. If your page has errors then it will look unprofessional and may turn away customers.
Book Launch Tip #4: Don’t make your book launch schedule too short. Some people try to complete a book launch in 45 days which is very difficult. There are so many details to take care of that people don’t realize how long they actually take. For example, obtaining an ISBN number can take a long time.
Book Launch Tip #5: Don’t wait until the last minute to find joint venture partners. Try to find these partners well in advance because you want people to commit to your book launch right from the start. In order to obtain joint ventures you need to establish and build relationships earlier as well. For example, the minute you determine that you are going to launch a book is the minute you should get on the phone and call your friends and colleagues for their support and joint venture possibilities.

Where now for used booksellers?
Where now for used booksellers?
The traditional high street bookshop is fast disappearing and so what does the future hold for the professional bookseller? The move towards the internet has been massive but competition is ferocious and margins have gotten tighter and tighter. Who will survive and in what form?
There will always be a place for bookstores. The internet cannot provide for the casual browser who loves the smell and feel of that dusty cosy book filled haven from the real world. Rare books, collectors items, first editions you need to see them and haggle with the owner over the price. This used to be the only way to buy a used book, but we all know that book buying has exploded onto the internet in the guise of Amazon, Abebooks, Alibris et al. This is definitely the future, at least for the volume trading of cheap, mass produced novels, textbooks, reference books, manuals, literature etc. etc. etc.
Most bookstores survive by adding their inventory to the database of these big book listing services but the trend is relentlessly moving away from the costly main street premises to the relatively cheap shop window of the internet where the biggest cost is often shipping.
I remember from my school economics that the ‘perfect market’ was when everyone knew the price that everyone else was selling for. This theoretical market is now a reality and book comparison sites and book search engines like usedbooksearch.co.uk instantly give the best price and location for any given book criteria. It has gotten so competitive in the used book market that paperback novels are selling for 1 cent and any profit is contained in the shipping charge. Herein lies the future where no dealer can afford to rent a shop, cannot afford the cost of any storage area, cannot even afford to employ staff because the profit margin is so small on every single book, just to make a sale.
The most efficient means of delivering the written word is electronically. But e-books apart from the ‘get rich quick’ fraternity does not seem to have gone the same way as say, electronic music where downloading your favourite track is fast becoming the method of preference. Most people would still rather print out a document rather than read it exclusively from the screen which is not easy on the eye for a relaxing dip into that favourite novel.
Until the handheld electronic book becomes the next part of the cell phone, i-pod, organiser merger then we are stuck with the good old paperback. This is not as archaic as it might seem as when you order a book you are pretty sure what you will be getting through the post in the next day or two. It is also already fairly compact, lightweight and instantly usable upon delivery.
So, I believe the future will be some form of automated system (website?) that enables a book to move directly from the current owner to the customer with only shipping costs in between. Yes, there will always be room for dealers who can buy in bulk or even find a source of free books (they would have to work from home and store the books under the bed), but the principal would be the same. The contract would be between the customer and the individual selling. This is being done already by Ebay with the added excitement of an online auction to determine the price. Unfortunately the book you want to buy may not be up for auction just when you need it for that project at college! Amazon allow individuals to post their books for sale , and in my opinion, this comes closest to the way used books will be sold in the future, but they charge a standing fee and then 15% commission on top and this is still probably subsidised by their other activities. There is plenty of room for competing with this for someone without the overheads that Amazon must be carrying each year. Everyone else (and including the main part of Amazon) is part of the ‘book industry’, dealing with dealers, each level taking a bit off the top.
So, that is my vision of the future of used book selling. A person to person arrangement without middlemen, just service providers putting people together.

Why Anyone Can Write A Book
Ask anyone that you meet if they’ve ever had an idea to write a book and I bet that 99% of the time their eyes light up and they say ‘Yes.’
Everyone has numerous wonderful book ideas. My experience and conversations with thousands of people tell me that this is true. The difference between those that actually write a book and those that don’t is simple. Those that don’t write a book don’t believe that they can.
That’s simply not true. Anyone can write a book.
If you can talk, you can write.
Take a look at 5 of your favorite books, fiction or Non-fiction it doesn’t matter. In fact, grab a few of each. Now, open each book and read a few paragraphs. What do you see? What you’ll likely notice is that there is a common theme running in all of them.
They’re written conversationally. They’re written like you talk. Conversational style is the best style because it is easy to read, easy to understand and easy to write.
Take a look at some of the most prolific authors, both fiction and Non-fiction. Stephen King comes to mind as a very prolific fiction writer. Non-fiction writers might include the Chicken Soup series and co writers Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen. All of those books are written conversationally. They’re accessible to readers of all ages, income levels, and IQ’s.
Conversational style eliminates jargon. It eliminates large words that people have to rely on a dictionary to understand. Conversational style also uses the word ‘you’ often. It’s written as if you were writing a letter or telling a story to a friend.
Basically, if you can write a letter to a friend, then you can write a book—I promise. Of course you need to be able to plan a book too but all that requires is a plan or an outline. Once your outline is established, writing the book can take as little as a month to complete.

Move Over Chicken Soup…There’s a New Book in Town
Ladies, it’s time you told your story. We all have one…I know you want to tell it. I’m giving you that chance.
I’ve created a hot new book called “Flowers in a Urinal; real stories about real women™” and its purpose is to give women a place to share their story. My goal is to help women overcome obstacles in their lives by letting them know they are not alone.
We need to be empowered, stand together and overcome this chauvinistic world we pretend we don’t live in.
I come from abusive relationships, broken marriages, being a single mom on welfare, having a serious addiction to food and no self esteem. I have stories. I’ve overcome most of these obstacles and I’m strongly working on the others.
Imagine being alone, being afraid, being in a spot in your life where you have no one to turn to. Now imagine picking up this book and reading a story about you. It’s YOU! Only it’s been written by someone else. Wow…you aren’t alone. You don’t need to be afraid. You can overcome whatever it is that’s bringing you down.
Imagine being the author of that story knowing that you were able to make a difference in someone else’s life by sharing your story. What a rewarding feeling.
Ladies, take a stand. Tell me your story! Tell others your story. Let them know they aren’t alone. Help me get the word out to others so they can tell their story. Pass this on to everyone you know and ask them to keep passing it on. It’s time we united as women and let our voices be heard!
Send your story to story@flowersinaurinal.com
Visit the website http://www.flowersinaurinal.com (I’m constantly updating and making changes so check back often. Suggestions are welcome)
We all have a story…what’s yours?

Can a Cheap e-Book Save a Marriage?
All around the world there are couples who are in a failing marriage due to one reason or another. Some of them struggle on against the odds without any outside professional help until the inevitable happens. The marriage is over.
Why do some people avoid marriage counseling?
A partner in a troubled marriage may be nervous about seeking professional help possibly because they find it embarrassing to talk about their personal problems to a stranger, no matter how experienced and sympathetic that stranger might be. It is not easy for some people to discuss their innermost fears and failings even to a professional marriage counselor. Also, one partner may feel that their marriage is in trouble but their spouse does not seem to notice the danger signs and acts as if everything is fine. This can make it very difficult to bring up the subject without causing more conflict between the couple.
Is there an alternative to marriage counseling?
Because of this fear, thousands of people with marriage problems have turned to self-help marriage guidance book or courses, many of which have been written by experienced marriage counselors and relationship experts. Their years of experience with counseling couples with marriage problems have been distilled into books packed with expert advice and techniques. You can find lots of these marriage-saving guides on the Internet as a low-cost downloadable e-book, on audio tape or even as a multimedia product on DVD. Some even offer extra free bonus books and further support if requested. The techniques outlined in these books can be used by one willing partner on his/her own to change and improve their marriage.
Do self-help marriage guidance books really work?
The answer is very often YES; if you are willing to follow the techniques outlined in them and are determined to save your marriage. Many testimonials have been given by satisfied customers about the effectiveness of some of these marriage-saving guides and how their marriage has been saved by following the advice given in them. A word of caution though: If you think just by reading one of these books that your marriage will be miraculously saved without any effort on your part then the answer must be a resounding NO.
These books are, after all, marriage guidance books which show you how to fix a broken marriage; much like a DIY book shows you how to fix a broken fence. They will give you step-by-step guidance but you must do the actual repairs yourself. Along with the information in the book, the only tools you will need to mend a broken marriage is your own heart and willingness which you should possess already. If you don’t have these essential tools then no book on earth can save your marriage.
Conclusion:
These marriage guidance books may not be the answer for everyone with marriage problems but they are generally inexpensive and most come with a no-quibble money-back guarantee if they don’t work for you. They have helped thousands of people to save their marriages and if you are having marriage problems they may be just what you are looking for.

The History Of Audio Books
It’s really amazing that you can get the exact value listening to an audio book while doing your normal chores as you would reading it.
Certain experts even say information sinks in more when we are not paying direct attention to them.
But when did this audio book phenomenon really start? In other words, what’s the history of audio books?
From all indications, audio books look like a very recent invention, right?
WRONG!
It is very easy to make the assumption that audio books are a recent invention because of the mention of CDs, downloadable digital formats, MP3s, PDAs and other technological jargons each time audio books are discussed. But audio books started a long time ago.
To know how long audio books have been, it is pertinent to understand exactly what audio books are.
Forget about any other jargon you have heard, audio books are simply books that are recorded to be heard, instead of read.
That being the case, such recordings of books in audio formats have been around for a very long time. If you want to be specific, it is safe to say they were first introduced over half a century ago.
It could even be longer, if you include the Library of Congress recordings made especially for the American Foundation for the Blind and distributed free throughout the U.S.
However, according to Robin Whitten, the editor and founder of the only magazine which is dedicated solely to the audio book industry:
Audiofile–http://www.AudioFileMagazine.com, Caedmon (now a subsidiary of Harper Collins Publishers) can be credited to have started the recordings of literature as far back as 50 years ago.
Going further, he said Caedmon was just a small company way back then in New York, which started recording the audio of great authors and poets of the 1950s. Specifically, he said one of the earliest recordings were by greats such as Dylan Thomas, T.S. Eliot, Fitzgerald and Robert Frost.
What happened then was that they were simply recorded while doing their own works and made as vinyl records.
But these early recordings can arguably pass off for the first collection of audio books ever.
However, the transition of these book recordings into audiocassette tapes didn’t happen until the late 1970s up to the 1980s. From thence, it blossomed until audio books in audiocassette tapes came to be accepted by all and sundry.
For whatever reason however, the audio book phenomenon didn’t really kick off until the 1990s.
And with the transition from audiocassette technology into CDs, more people have become interested in audio books.
With the advent of the Internet and its paraphernalia, audio books have now transited from vinyl records, audiocassette taps and CDs into downloadable digital formats that can be listened to with a desktop computer, laptop computer, PDAs, etc.
If you are still interested in “going back in time” you can get the original book recordings that started this audio book industry.
Impossible?
Not really.
Some of those early 1950s analog recordings by Caedmon which were performed by the greats of those days can be purchased today on the Internet.
For example, recently I was able to browse the Internet thoroughly and found the original recording of “The Lord of the Rings” as read by J.R.R. Tolken.
You can find that classic you have always dreamt of in audio book format if you search hard enough on the Internet.

Write Your Own E-Book - The Easy Way
Ever wanted to write your own e-book but don’t know where to start; don’t know how to write a book; hated English when you were at school? Read on and I will show you how to create your own e- book and have your name as author and only have to write 4 or 5 paragraphs yourself, something anybody can do
Still with me, right lets get started.
What we are going to do is, using other peoples hard work, create an e-book that will sell like hot cakes. This sounds too good to be true, I know but stay with me. This method is one used by some of the top selling publishers on the internet, to create products time after time.
In another article, ‘Researching Your Niche - How Hard Can It Be?’, I showed you how to find niche e-book ideas in article directories. Today we’re going to use the content in them to create e- books.
Web site owners use Article Directories to submit their articles they have written so they get free publicity for their web sites. At the end of each article is a link back to their web site with a bit of information about their site. These site owners want people to take that article and market it to others so they get visitors to their site with out spending any money on marketing themselves. This is perfect for savvy entrepreneurs who are willing to spend a few hours of their time in order to profit for many years.
Go to www.goarticles.com or any other article directory, and type in the topic of the niche you want to write about in the search bar at the top right (make sure it’s on “article content” rather than search by author). So for example type in ” gardening”. You’ll get thousands of result related to what you have searched for. Now what I want you to do is simply go through the results finding at least one hundred quality articles related to the topic of gardening and copy and paste them into Word or some kind of word processing application.
As I’ve said make sure they are quality articles. If you create an e-book using rubbish you’ll just get a sky high refund rate and it will all be a pointless exercise. Do it right from the off and you’ll set yourself up for success.
Try and tie all the articles together into one sub niche. For example a sub niche of gardening might be composting. So you could find articles on composting left over food, what plants not to compost that kind of thing. Use a bit of imagination when using this method.
Email Article Authors
You don’t want to use any articles without the author’s permission. Remember the majority of articles will have been submitted so the author can get visitors to their site without spending a dime. However you never want to breach any copyright laws. To avoid this email the authors of each article. Explain to them that you are creating an e-book aimed at their niche market. You’d love to include their article in your book and you’ll include a link back to their site and information about them. Also ask them if they have any other articles you could include.
You can expect around seventy percent of authors you contact to be delighted you’re going to include their article in your book. Then all you need to do is discard the articles from authors who you haven’t heard from or who won’t let you use their article.
Put the articles in an order that makes sense and create a contents page. Use the titles of the articles as contents topics. You could even create chapters aimed at solving certain problems people in your niche have. So for example if you were creating an e-book on golf you could create a section on improving your golf swing, a section on the mind game of golf and so on. All articles would make up separate chapters.
Finally write a short introduction and conclusion. These only need to be a few paragraphs each. Tell people what they can expect to learn and make sure you sign off using your name. Instantly you will establish yourself as an expert. You can also link to your back end products at the end of the book to increase your sales.
Finally you need to turn it into an e-book to sell. Go to www.primopdf.com and download the software. Don’t worry it’s free. Once downloaded all you need to do is in your word software hit ” file”and then “print” and then select “primo PDF” as your printer. Voila. You’ve just created an e- book using other people’s hard work. This whole process can be done in just a few hours. Obviously you may need to wait a day or two for the article authors to get back to you but apart from that you’re all set! Anyone can use this method to create more e-books than you’d ever be able to sell.
That’s a great method right? I mean it won’t cost you anything to create a product yet you could sell hundreds if not thousands of copies and keep all the profits using other people’s hard work!
